Stereo
Just finnished one of the books. Political Economy. I read a lot these past days. Still I'm nearly nowhere. There are 3 more books left. Bigger ones. And only 3 days. I need some sleep. Instead of sleeping or reading I'm just sitting and pumping my head with The Vector Warror right now... God I really need this fix. The sounds of Amon Tobin and Charlie Clouser are haunting me aswell. Must resist. No time for this. No time. But when if not now? Instead of just sitting here with my music I figured I could aswell start to write spontaneous thoughts while listening. Get on with this soul-striptease thing... Wait the song is over. Gotta play another one. I don't want to listen to the sounds of my keyboard. I need another track dammit! Ah! Xploding plastix! Thank you! Why am I doing this? Just why? It's not rational. But right now I prefer to focus on just one thing. The sounds are helping me not to think about all the other things aswell. The book is finnished. The rest can wait for a second. I need this music to build a wall. This wall is protecting me from all the thoughts that should really stay out right now. Ah it's working. These drums are just amazing. And the strings. No words can describe the beauty of ordered disorder. We really start to enjoy it when it get's heavy don't we? Human nature maybe. Or maybe just my nature.posted by Yavor @ 11:08 PM

Blood Diamond
When it comes to movies I'm a bit picky. Well not exactly picky. A movie has to be honest above all for me to like it. Or it has to try to fool me, to make me underestimate it. If a movie pretends to be deep and complicated and is in fact deep and complicated - well done. If it pretends to be primitive and violent and is primitive and violent - well done. If it pretends to be stupid and primitive but turns out to be intelligent - perfect!
I watched "Blood Diamond" a few days back. I admit I was a bit confused. Is it an honest movie? First of all the title. It sounds like one of those B-Action Movies Produced for VHS. But on the other hand it has Leonardo DiCaprio in it and not Steven Segal... Hm... It's an action loaded hunt for a priceless diamond in Sierra Leone. We have a white and edgy smuggler, a decent black farmer and a beautiful and idealistic journalist on an exciting journey through rebel territory ... What a plot... Sounds trashy.
But then it deals with issues like civil war, child soldiers, family values, conflict diamonds, world views, hypocrisy etc. I was confused while I watched it. Is it an intelligent movie done in a primitive Hollywood style so that more people would watch it and would start to think about some important issues? Or is it just another action movie exploiting a topic so that nobody could dismiss it? If you would say "What a stupid movie" people would answer "But those issues are real! You have to like to movie in order to be politically correct"... Before the film ended I decided that it's not the latter. It took me some time though. After all it was a good movie. It's done exactly like it's supposed to be to reach a broad audience. And that's good. Leonardo DiCaprio was convincing in a role that is not really typical for him. Djimon Hounsou plays good. His character is a bit too simple and obvious for my taste but that's not his fault. Same for Jennifer Connelly but you just have to love her.
Or maybe this movie just cought me in the right mood. We are writing a paper right now about the causes of civil war - greed or grievance? It's hard for me to participate in the group. I feel like we are wasting our time. While we are thinking about dependent and independent variables and how to encode them so that we can state the obvious in a scientific manner, people are being raped and killed. Is this really the right thing to do? I want to change something. Not to look at tables with lot's of numbers on them...Anyway I'm looking forward to the reactions to the movie when it hits the theaters...

2007 yada yada
I hope you had a good start in 2007. I for my part literally crashed into it.Still don't know how "The Black Pearl" is doing. The doctor said that she will be alright. But he still hasn't called. And now I'm here. Sitting all alone. Worrying. Waiting for this call. Call me! Call me dammit!
Aaaanywaaay... I got a sexy Ford Fiesta from the doctor as a substitute while the old lady is in repair. Here's a pic of my new baby in front of my house:
